Participant feedback — Tendara workshops

What households in Kuching say after attending.

These are accounts from people who have attended Tendara sessions — what they found useful, what they left with, and what they would say to another household considering the same.

"We attended the Family Conversation Workshop after a difficult meeting the previous year where things went sideways. The agenda template was the thing that helped most — it gave us a structure to follow instead of everyone talking at the same time. We have used it three times since."

"The Shared Records Session was longer than I expected — a full day is a proper commitment — but by the end we had a binder with labelled sections and a cover sheet listing where everything is kept. It sounds simple but we had never done it before. Would have been useful five years ago."

"We enrolled in the Family Records Programme as a family of four. It ran over about seven weeks and by the end we had a printed handbook we could all refer to. The facilitator was careful to stay within the scope — we knew she was not there to advise us on anything, just to help us get organised."

"I came with my mother and my sister. My mother found it quite moving, actually — she had been concerned for years about what would happen to certain documents and this session helped her feel less worried about it. Nothing dramatic, just organised. That was enough."

"The conversation workshop was good but I think we needed the records session too — we left knowing how to talk but still not sure where things were kept. I would suggest doing both in sequence. That said, the prompt deck has been genuinely useful and my husband actually picks it up before we have a household discussion now."

"We completed the full programme over six weeks. The final handbook is something I would not have thought to produce myself but it is genuinely the most useful document in our house right now. Everything in one place, clearly labelled. The scanning checklist also prompted me to scan about forty pages I had been putting off."

Family Records Programme • January–March 2025

Three household journeys through Tendara sessions.

Case Study 01 — Family Conversation Workshop

A family of three that had avoided discussing household matters for two years.

Challenge

After the passing of a parent, three adult siblings found themselves unable to hold a practical household conversation without it becoming emotional or trailing off without any outcome. Two years had passed and key matters remained unaddressed.

Approach

They attended the Family Conversation Workshop together. The session gave them a shared vocabulary and a consistent agenda format they could use for future household meetings — on their own, without a facilitator present.

Outcome

Within two months of the session, they had held three household meetings using the prompt deck and agenda template. They reported that having a fixed format removed much of the emotional unpredictability from those conversations.

"Having the agenda on paper meant nobody could just get up and leave. We had to work through it. That sounds small but it made all the difference."
Case Study 02 — Shared Records Session

A household where key documents were spread across three locations and nobody knew where everything was.

Challenge

A married couple in their sixties had documents stored in an office drawer, a home filing cabinet, and a storage room — with no systematic reference for which was where. When a document was needed urgently, it took considerable time to locate.

Approach

The Shared Records Session gave them a full working day with a facilitator to map what they had and where, categorise it using a simple labelling system, and produce a cover sheet that could be updated as things changed.

Outcome

They left with a working draft binder and a labelled cover sheet. They subsequently scanned their most important documents and added digital references to the binder. Their adult children now also have a copy of the cover sheet.

"It took one day. One day, and now everyone in the family knows where to find what they need. I only wish we had done it sooner."
Case Study 03 — Family Records Programme

A multi-generational household that wanted to complete a full records review before a major life change.

Challenge

A family of four adults — two parents and two adult children — was approaching a period of significant change and wanted all household records properly organised, with a shared reference the whole family could use regardless of where they were living.

Approach

They enrolled in the Family Records Programme, which ran across five sessions over six weeks. The sessions covered inventory, labelling, scanning, meeting templates, and culminated in a printed household handbook assembled specifically for their family's record structure.

Outcome

The family completed the programme with a printed handbook, scanning checklist, and a set of meeting agenda templates. Three months later, they reported using the handbook to locate documents twice during administrative processes without any difficulty.

"The handbook is now in a specific spot in our home. When something is needed, everyone knows to check it first. That is new for us."
